Blepharoplasty
When an advanced amount of upper eyelid skin is present, the skin may hang over the eyelashes and cause a loss of peripheral vision. The outer and upper parts of the visual field are most commonly affected and the condition may cause difficulty with activities such as driving or reading. Blepharoplasty is oftentimes recommended as both a functional and cosmetic surgical procedure intended to reshape the upper eyelid or lower eyelid by the removal or re positioning of excess tissue, as well as the reinforcement of surrounding muscles and tendons.
Blepharoplasty is performed through external incisions made along the natural skin lines of the eyelids, such as the creases of the upper lids and below the lashes of the lower lids, or from the inside surface of the lower eyelid. Initial swelling or bruising may take one to two weeks to resolve; At least several months are needed until the final result becomes stable.
Botox Injections
An effective, safe, nonsurgical, treatment for dynamic lines now available at South East Eye. With a procedure known as chemodenervation, Botox is used to soften or even eliminate dynamic facial lines by blocking the impulses from the nerve to the facial muscles responsible for the development of dynamic lines. Treatment is administered by using a tiny micro-needle to deliver an exact amount of Botox to several locations on the face. Due to the small size of the needle and the limited amount of liquid used, pain is minimal and sedation is not required. Though mid bruising may occur at the injection sites, they are easily covered with makeup and there is no special recovery period.
Results may be visible in as few as 2 to 4 days following a Botox injection and the effect of a treatment generally lasts up to six months. Repeat injections are usually only needed 2 to 4 times per year. After receiving several treatments, many patients find that they require Botox even less often. Some even find that they have achieved a permanent improvement, although this is the exception rather than the rule. The side effects of Botox are minimal and are not permanent. Rarely, an eyelid may droop temporarily.
Dermal Fillers
As our bodies age, our skin also ages and begins to show changes that may be undesirable. The fat and collagen underlying our skin begins to diminish due to the natural aging process, resulting in saggy skin or wrinkles. One way to correct these effects is undergoing a surgical face lift, which is a costly and invasive procedure that has risks. Alternatively, dermal fillers are a low-cost, minimally invasive procedure with little or no recovery time and minimal risks. Dermal fillers have become a very trendy way to address the aging process.
Dermal fillers can be injected into areas with fine lines and wrinkles. Most of the problem areas include the area around the eyes, lips, brow, bridge of the nose, mouth, jaw line and cheeks. Scarring from injury to the face or acne can also be corrected with dermal fillers.
Common side effects of dermal fillers include bleeding or bruising after the procedure or allergic reactions. Patient should expect some degree of pain during the injection and redness for up to 36 hours after the procedure. Application of ice to the injection sites can decrease these symptoms.
Fat Transplantation
For patients who are unwilling or unable to utilize our Botox treatments, fat transplantation is another technique that can be used to treat dynamic wrinkles. It is also useful for correcting facial grooves and depressions. The patient’s own fat cells are removed with low-pressure liposuction using local anesthesia. The fat is processed and then injected into the area that requires treatment. In most cases, two to three transplants are needed to achieve the best results.
