Dr. Richard Van De Velde is a Michigan native and completed his training at the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. Additionally, Dr.Van De Velde completed his internships at the State University of New York and at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. He was an associate in a multi-specialty Ophthalmic practice in Michigan before relocating to Georgia. He is a member of the Georgia Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Van De Velde joined South East Eye in 2001, and acts as Director of Clinics. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the eye, including pre and post-operative care of ophthalmic surgeries, ocular infections, glaucoma, dry eye, diabetic eye examinations, and ocular emergencies.
In addition to lending his expertise to the patients of South East Eye, Dr. Van De Velde lectures throughout the southeast on the treatment of eye disease. True to South East Eye’s commitment to optometric partnerships, by working and collaborating with Dr. John Imhoff and Dr. Kent Price, Dr. Van De Velde is able to better treat each patient’s individual needs.
Dr. Van De Velde is married and has two daughters. When not with his patients, he enjoys an occasional round of golf, and is an amateur musician. His favorite past time, however, is enjoying the company of his family.
